As a child…
Steven had sat with his mother in a bus winding through the Andes mountains of Colombia, there to see her sister for the first time in years, a falling out. He watched his mother stare out the window at the rainforest mountains, contemplating what had led up to this point. Why had so many years gone by without talking to her sister? Steven thought to himself, “This is a pivotal moment in the story of my mothers life. I need to always remember this feeling.” He made it a point to take in the surroundings, the rocky rattling of the bus, the glaring sun, and his mothers reflective gaze. That’s when he picked up his first 35mm Nikon F3.
And so came his passion with perspective and mood.
After studying at Emerson college Steven started in the control room of MSNBC during the 2003 Iraq war. He worked his way as a film crew member in NYC until his DOP feature film Debut - NATURAL SELECTION, which swept the 2011 SXSW film festival and was nominated for two SPIRIT AWARDS. Since then Mr. Calitri went on to shoot features debuting in Tribeca, Toronto, and Sundance. He’s set the look for TV series which include BROAD CITY, THIS ISN’T HAPPENING, DIFFICULT PEOPLE, LOVE IS, and EVERYTHING’S GONNA BE OKAY.
